A brief biography of David Newman
David Newman has been involved in waste management since 1998. Before this he worked for and ran Greenpeace in Italy and worked also for the national ministry of Environment and local authorities. He led the Italian composting and biogas association for 15 years until 2014, was President of the national waste association ISWA Italy until 2014, founded and led the Bioplastics Association from 2011 to 2015, leading the advocacy efforts in Italy to promote biowaste collection and treatment. Italy is now world leader in this and during this time (2012-13) he was also personal advisor to the then Minister of Environment, Andrea Orlando. Since 2015 he founded and leads the Bio Based and Biodegradable Industries Association UK and from 2012 to 2016 he was President of the International Solid Waste Association promoting the importance of policies and investments in waste management as a global environmental priority.
He specialises in biowaste and plastics management and was among the team that successfully lobbied for the plastic carrier bags directive in the EU.
The World Biogas Association was founded in 2016 and he was asked to be the first President in November 2016.He advises companies on strategies for growth in the waste sector and works with several businesses as an advisor in the UK and elsewhere.
He lives and works in London since 2016 and is a Corporate Member of the CIWM UK, Honorary Member of ISWA and Member of the UK Institute of Directors.
